For more about the region represented, see the map at the side.

Overall Goals:

A. To identify and map a connected system of natural areas that can inform and support:

  1. sustainable land use planning and resource management decision-making
  2. strategic priorities for stewardship and restoration projects
  3. priorities for conservation land acquisitions, and
  4. priorities for inventory programs and research projects

B. To bring together organizations that represent local communities to work collaboratively and provide a greater understanding of the value of a healthy natural heritage system that supports healthy communities.

Use of the NHS information produced in this project is voluntary. However, there are many benefits of using the information generated from this process. The product is grounded in documented decisions regarding which areas were included; it is based on the best available data; and it reflects the considerations and objectives of a diverse group of local stakeholders.
